বক বক

কখনও কখনও কারুর সাথে কথা বলতে বলতে মনে হয়, "বাবারে, আর কত কথা শুনবো !"... কিছু 'লোকের' কথা বলতে পারলে মন হালকা হয়ে যায়, কিন্তু যে শুনছে তার কথাও তো কেউ ভাবোওওওও... !!!

Sometimes when you're listening to someone talk, you get extremely extremely bored, and begin to wonder, "How much more do I need to listen to this crap?". Okay, some people feel better when they talk, but someone please understand what the listener feels..........

ছুটি

একদিন এক বৃদ্ধ মানুষের সাথে bus-এ যেতে যেতে কথা হচ্ছিল. উনি বল্লেন, ওনার দুই ছেলে -- দুজনেই চাকরি করে কাছেই কোথাও. কিন্তু তারা খালি ছুটির সময় দেখা করতে আসে. জানালেন, "জানি না তারা আমার সাথে দেখা করতে আসে নাকি ছুটি কাটাতে. দেখি, কোনোদিন অসুস্থ ঽয়ে পড়লে বুঝতে পারব বোধ ঽয়" ... কথাটা আমার খুব মনে লেগেছিল.


One day when I was travelling on the bus, I met this old man. After talking for some time, he told me that he has two sons who work somewhere close by, and they come during each vacation to visit him. He wasn't sure if they came to meet him or to spend their vacation. He said, "Perhaps if I fall ill one of these days, I'll find out better"... somehow these words had me pondering as well.

সকালের এক ধাপ কাজ

ভাবলে আশ্চর্য লাগে যে সকাল সকাল উঠে এক ধাপ পড়ার কাজ সেরে নিতে পারলে কেমন যেন গোটা দিনে অার সময় নষ্ট করলেও গায়ে লাগে না - দিব্যি মনে হয় অনেক তো পড়লাম অাবার কালকে হবে... :)

Translation: It seems so strange when you think about it: if you get up in the morning and study meticulously for some time, then wasting time during the rest of the day somehow seems okay -- you tell yourself, "Oh enough for today, I'll worry about the rest tomorrow"... :)

অয়মারম্ভ শুভায় ভবতু

অনেকদিন থেকেই ভাবছিলাম এই বাংলা blog টা তে লেখা শুৱু করবো, কিন্তু আজই বোধ ঽয় দিব্য সম্মতি পেলাম. গুরুদেবের জন্মদিনেই শুভ আরম্ভ ঽবে বার্তা. এখানে দেখতে থেকো.

Translation: I was planning to start this Bengali blog for a long time now, but couldn't find time to do this. Maybe today I just happened to have divine consent. Besides, Gurudeb's* birthday just went by -- hence on this auspicious day the messages shall begin. Keep watching this space.

P.S. - As I try to translate this into English, I realize how difficult it is to translate the "shubho arombho hobe barta" phrase. I am proud of the Bengali language!

*Rabindranath Tagore is commonly referred to as Gurudeb among all Bengalis: after the tradition started in Shantiniketan
